You are just now figuring out how screwed up the world is? Greed is the root of all evil.
The world is going to self destruct. It is just a matter of time.

Let's get a bit scientific here. First of all, the end of the world will only happen one of two ways. By a large comet strike or our sun exploding. The question everyone really wants to know is when will the world end "as we know it". That could be tomorrow if no one stops the nuclear build up and chemical warfare.
It has been proved that the earth is billions of years old and that the existance of up right humans (not totally accepted by all but proof is available) pre-date the evolutionary human tree. Archeologists have provided many clues about the CYCLE of the earth. Yes, the earth is ready to shake off its parasites but it will only populate again.
Now, for divine intervention... God is benevalent and omnipresent. That means God does NOTHING bad and NOTHING good. God does NOTHING - God just is.
Omni present means that God exists in everything and everywhere all at the same time. Since two particles of matter or non-matter can not occupy the same space at the same time brings us to the following conclusion. All is God, we are God, there is only one God, hence we are ONE. It is free will that causes problems and it is free will that needs to intervene.
So ONE needs to intervene and each one of us has the power to do something. My challenge is, everyone who reads this pick up one piece of trash off the street or ground everyday for the next year! Now that is divine intervention!

I love the theory of uninspired church architecture bringing God's wrath, as a designer in training. :-)
The end of the world has been nigh for thousands of years now. We've had bubonic plague, floods, etc. So we just have a new problem.
The fact is, while I believe in other things, this is the only world we have real evidence of. So we need to take care of it, not sit and wring our hands and pray. We can at least say we've done our best. Discouraging others and hoping for Jesus to come is not your best, I'm sure.
I think of this by Dorothy Parker when things look hopeless:
"Eat drink and be merry
dance the whole night through
for tomorrow we may die!
But alas, we never do."
In other words, if we are not careful, we won't see an end--only the beginning of a new kind of misery.
Now, which would *you* prefer?

At first I was going to ask why this quesiton was in R&S and not under the enviromental section, then I remembered that Global Warming is a form of Reglion.
A volcano does more the the atmosphere than Man does, only one half of 1% of the CO2 in the air is caused by man, that's a really big amount isn't it. Water Vapor does more to pollute than CO2 from cars and factorys, but what can we do about that? Or planet is 70% water.
People have been talking about the end of time since the begining of time, and it hasn't ended yet. It will not end in my life time, nor in my childrens. 5-10 more years and you'll see that too.

You are quite correct. The world is indeed "screwed up". Dear young friend, you are only 20. Do you believe you are the first generation to notice this? You sound a lot like we did back in the 60's. At least you don't have 'Nam and segregation like we did. The Book says, "there is nothing new under the sun. All is vanity." As my grandson would say, "chill out." The world will probably survive, it always does.

Either event is stupid to wait around for, but not much to be done except to encourage people to be rational in their daily lives. The vast majority is delusional about the world, finding comfort in their personal worlds of fantasy and ignorance. Reason as a quality in people is, unfortunately, not highly covetable unless it makes money and all we can do it be reasonable ourselves (question and investigate throughly) and encourage others to do the same. Either that or go become a monk/hermit.

I find offense when you claim no one realises how screwed up this world is. I love how you limit yourself to emissions - wake up! There are a lot worse things happening to people as I type this and as you read this. Everyone, in one way or another, is/will be contributing to the bad things in this world (or in your case, the atmosphere). Go get a hybrid and stop whining.

Hello and more then this world is as you put it screwed up, first some back ground for my reply and allow me to tell you some facts you may not be aware of first, in Heb.1:5-9 we read The Father Himself address Jesus as God, in John 1 we read Jesus was the member of The Godhead who made this world in the first place, when in Gen.3 mankind sinned they as it were pulled the plug on life, Jesus Christ the second member of The Godhead promised in Gen.3:15 that one day He would come [and He did] destroy the works of the devil, but when mankind sinned more then just this world suffered, in Isa.14:12-15 we read satan has/had a "i" problem, we have that same problem, in Isa.53 we understand Jesus has just the opposite, in Isa.53:2 we read Jesus when He came to earth, giving up His divine body He took up a body that was just a regular body, nothing special and it was flesh and blood like ours, when He left earth He kept that same body, not just for the time He was here but FOREVER, God is offering to trade with you, He is giving you and me His nature and to fit you for a place in His Kingdom, all you have to do is ask for it and live up to the conditions which it is offered, we are all walking in our own graves, He has came so we might have life, He paid a debt He did not owe because we owe a debt we can not pay, this world and us are screwed up but with God ALL things are possible, find out more free bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org talk to me also wgr88@yahoo.com God bless

I think you need to settle down. This is what you believe. There are studies that say the opposite of all of this.
Regardless of that, if everyone dies, what will it matter? You won't be around to care and neither will your kids. Why freak out about something you cannot control?

Actually, the biggest polluter in the world is China, not US.
You step outside on a weekday in Shanghai, it feels like you're breathing straight from a tailpipe of an ill-tuned 18-wheeler.
