I think it has to do with frustration or unmet expectations/needs. Kids turn on a TV looking for entertainment or distraction. It's frustrating for kids to get a static screen.

Or it could be that someone or something in your life really disappointed you at that age. Portrayed themselves to be something they couldn't deliver.

Do you have any idea what major life event happened when you were five?

I think our dreams are relevant to the time we dream them. From 5 to 10 is really a significant span of your childhood. I think the dream has to do with something that bothered you during that time. Something your subconscious mind was trying to work out.

Think back over your major disappointments during that time and see what comes to you. What in your life didn't work when you expected it to - or work the way you expected it to?

What changed when you were 10? It was clearly significant to you for you to still remember the dream today.

Seems to me like you were experiencing a feeling of emptiness. Had you lost someone close to you at the time? Or were you not receiving the attention/love/support that you needed? Had you moved recently? These and other situations could be the cause for this dream.

To make a point, I have dreams similar to yours as well. From the age of 5 until about three years ago (the age of 22) I had a collection of dreams. As soon an event in my reality would occur that was linked to the dream such as my mother breaking her wrist (in my dream she broke her leg) that particular series of the dream would end. There were a total of three series, the other two predicted the death of my pet to cancer (in my dream he was consumed by a black bear), and my parents selling their home (in my dream we were forced to live in the basement while a new family occupied the living quarters).

Reminds me of that movie The Ring.

Basically, its a movie about a girl who transfers her hatred into a videotape and takes her revenge on anyone who watches it. The tv is a good place to take revenge because when people are watching tv, they aren't prepared for something bad to happen to them.

So watching the tv, which is supposed to lull, comfort, entertain, and promote a sense of self, instead becomes a vehicle for making one feel vulnerable and helpless.

If you haven't seen the movie, watch it with some friends and see how it makes you feel, or if you make some sort of connection with it. It could have been your mind suggesting the image to you for you to seek out later, since by then you will be old enough to understand what it's trying to tell you.
