I was wondering if there was anything I could use to clean my dog's ears other than the stuff you get from the pet store?

I heard you can use 1:1 vinegar & water, but the last time I did that, he ended up getting an ear infection and just smelled like a pickle. (This was suggested by the vet.)

If anybody could give me an answer it would be greatly appreciated. :D thanks!!

A Pickle! Your so funny!

Just go to your vets and get some Nolva cleanse. It's not expensive and works great. Or you can mix a solution at home of 1 part peroxide and 2 parts water. This you can't pour into the ears but just wet a cotton ball and squeeze out the extra and clean the out the ear.

Never ever use a Q-Tip in your dogs ears. Very bad!

Maybe the vinegar was not the cause of the infection. Others use it successfully.

This is a group of websites on cleaning your
dogs ears. Some of the important hints are:
NO Q-tips
Peroxide 1x/week works well
vinegar/water 1x/2weeks works
do it regularly
olive oil is a safe alternative

Petsmart has Ear Wipes which are great. I use them all the time to clean my dogs ears. They look like those clorox wipes. I use my index finger and gently go into the ear and rub. You'll be surprise at all the dirt you get out even if you can't see it. I wouldn't advise using a q-tip and you could rupture the ear drum if you go in to far. Q-tips are bad even for humans to use.

Mineral oil and cotton balls. Works fine and kills ear mites. But you have to really remove it all or the ear will be dirtier in just a few days than when you started.

You could use q-tips doused in sterile saline solution (you can get it at the drugstore in a metal can). I have also used q-tips with a bit of rubbing alcohol mixed with water. Be very gentle and don't go too far into the ear. When in doubt, don't poke and prod.

I use a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. But make sure the cotton is not saturated with alcohol. You don't want it running into the pups ears. ☺
