Russian economically, politically, and socially tired from the war --> Russian Revolution -> Center-left takes power --> Lenin comes back --> another russian revolution --> communists take power --> negotiations w/ germany stall out (due to trotsky's negotating style) --> Russian people/soliders demand for the war to end --> Russia agrees to german terms (which are not favorable to the russians) --> the treaty of brest-litovsk
