How do they all get around? Buses? Or do most just live on base? How do you get around on base?

I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was really thinking of all the young ppl who enlist. I know that most of my friends who just enlisted (in the 18-22 year old range) don't have vehicles.

Most young guys do have cars. The problem is they purchase outside of their paycheck or get really bad interest rates. There are a lot of places right outside of the base that will tell you hey will finance you no matter what rank you are. Be careful they will do everything they can to screw you. If you are joining the military soon just be sure to get someone you know and trust to help you buy the car. A lot of posts do have shuttle buses or shopettes close to the barracks but some like Fort Hood are huge and have their facilities spread out. When I was there with no car for a while there were plenty of coworkers or other soldiers that would gladly give you a ride if you needed one.

All single Airmen under E-5 live in the dorms. Most dorms are located within walking distance of all work locations, chow halls, gym, shoppette, and anything else they might need on base. Some bases still offer a shuttle service (ours doesn't).
The majority of the people without cars are new Airmen just coming into the military. It's no different then someone going to college without a car. Find a friend who has one!

We do have cars we even have parking lots on base and we have places to store them when we are deployed. If you don't have a car the government supplies you with buses a to ride and your command will have a vehicle to pick you up if you need it after hours. If you are off base or live off base as about half the assigned personnel do you can use the local bus systems and taxis.

Well if they save their money they can get a car and many of them do have cars. There is usually a bus service on base though so that people can get from their barracks to other places. I know when I was in Fort Jackson many of the people used cabs if they had to go into town for some reason. Its not impossible besides walking is good for them anyways!

Depends on the size of the base.

Fort Shafter in Honolulu Hawaii is VERY small. You can walk around it, do all your shopping on it and have no problems. My husband didn't own a car for over a year. He rode Honolulu's buses when he wanted to go out somewhere.

Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC is MASSIVE. It's a city unto itself. You can live there with no problem... and a lot of people do. Hardly anyone that lives on post ventures outside of it, aside for movies (they have a theatre on post, but it's only got two screens) and other entertainment-based things.

Most Military people DO have cars. When I was stationed in San Diego, Parking was at a premium, Often I just took the trolly and walked to the piers from just outside the base. It was too much hassle to drive on base.

Most young servicemen and women have their own cars... they either drive them to their permanent duty station as soon as they're able to take some leave and make the trip, or they purchase a car once they're stationed someplace long enough to have free time enough to make the deal.

Where did you get the idea that most military people don't have cars? Unless I see a source for your claim, I believe your question is false.

I walked. If it was too far or I needed to get more stuff then I could carry, I got a taxi, road the bus, or asked someone for a ride.

Surely you're smarter than that?

Most military members own cars, just like civilians.
