I have two friends that met eachother while serving in the army. They fell in love, got married and are expecting their first child soon. Is it encouraged or frown upon for men and women of the same branch to form romantic relationships? I am not talking same sex relationships, but male-female relationships just to be clear.
God bless.

It is pretty common. The only way it is discouraged is if one is a supervisor of the other. It is completely forbidden if one is an officer and the other is enlisted. It can be very tough for the couple of they don't get an assignment at the same base. If they are at the same base they will probably be put into two different units. This could mean they are deployed to Iraq in two different rotation cycle and may not see each other for years on end except for mid tour leaves.

It's way common, most bases are set up to be semi-remote, that is the nearest town is about 16 miles away and most people in the military do not have thier own vehicles. Being cooped up on base with slim pickings leads to all kinds of relationships that might not otherwise happen in the civilian world. I watched it happen all around me with both straight people and people I thought were straight but would occasionally sneak out of the closet.

they are frowned upon but not illegal, unless it is an Officer and enlisted.

or both officer or both enlisted within the same chain of command.

But if they are both the same Officer or enlisted, and they are of two different commands, then it is legal. though still discouraged.

It is discouraged because having both partners in the military makes for trouble in station assignments. You can try to both be assigned to the same area but there is no garauntee. He could get stationed to say... San Diego, California. and She get stationed to Mayport Florida.

Fairly typical. You have to remember that serving in the military isn't that much different than working in a business or office in your hometown. People meet, get to know each other and things move forward from there. The primary difference is the non-fraternization between enlisted and officer ranks.

I don't know how common it is, but I met my husband when I was in the Army. I got pregnant, I got out and he stayed in for another year until his enlistment ended. We have been married now for 8 years. No regrets.

Yes, it's common.

However, rank comes into play heavily sometimes, too. Tell them to watch out for accusations of favoritism.
