So let's say the cops chase this guy all the way to the Mexican border and he makes it across and it arrested by the Mexican police. What happens to him? Do they hold him indefinately or send him back?

he gets extradited back to america. he's held in mexico until then.

The Mexican police will hold someone until they determine the reason for the chase. If the person fleeing is not subject to the death penalty, they will turn him over to the US.

I remember watching one incident on tv where a guy was holding a knife to his little child's neck. As the police came in, he handed the child to them and made a run for it and made it across the border. The Mexican officials immediately handed him back over.

well If a person commits a Crime in America and flee's to Mexico when the Mexican Police find him they say they will turn them over to the US but i havent heard of many of that happening

Sometimes they charge him in Mexico and if convicted they jail him there. Other times, he is found not guilty and let go in Mexico. Sometimes, they never bring him to trial at all. Rarely, in cases of major crimes, they turn him over to the US for prosecution.

I would not want to go to a Mexican jail bad things happen there.
