I am trying to understand Christianity. What I have so far come to understand from my Christian teachings that God was so upset with humans (humans behaviour was in His mind) that he decided to come down in a human form. The form and the name he adopted was that of Jesus. And that is my question: why he felt the need to change to Jesus and not remained God? He was God in Heaven and He should have remained God on earth as well? My question is with regards to His name and not the form that he took - the human form!

The name Jesus is Greek for "Savior". His Jewish and native name was Yeshua, or Joshua/Josh in modern English. This is one reason people misinterpreted him as an earthly king (you know the sign on the cross: This is Jesus, King of the Jews). There are many parallels between Jesus and Moses, both are lawgivers and judges, but there is also comparisons with Jesus and Joshua, who succeeded Moses. Joshua was a military leader, not a priest or anything really religious. It would be like if someone today was named Julius Caesar or Napoleon or Alexander the Great... You wouldn't expect them to be peaceful people, so this is why they instinctively feared Jesus' following. As for why not being named "God", well Jesus did not have many of the traits of God. He was not immortal - if you punched him it hurt. If he was named God people would just hack off his arm and say, "see, there is blood, so he cannot be God". The Natives actually did this with the Spanish. When the Spanish arrived in America they were looked on as gods in human form, but then the Natives held the Spanish under water for a long time until they drowned and then the Natives realized the Spanish were not Gods or else they wouldn't have died.

Jesus' name means Jehovah is salvation, so his name recognizes the creator, his father.
If Jesus were to use God's name Jehovah, then there would be 2 problems at least.
1) He would be saying that he himself is God. This would be both untrue and blasphemy.
2) Even if he was God using this name Jehovah would have been seen as blasphemy by his parents who gave him name near the time of his birth. No one would likely listen to a blasphemer assuming he lived long enough to talk.

The name Jesus was given by God thru an angel so it has God's approval.

Jesus and God, at least I think, are not the same entity. My Catholic teacher said Jesus was "100% Divine" and "100% Human" at the same time, and that sets him apart from God. You might ask why God didn't come down himself. That's something that few people could answer, but those you could ask are all humans.

If God is everything. And possibly nothing at the same time. How would people react to his/her arrival? 2000 years ago people didn't have our understanding of the world, or it's faculties as we know now. If a donkey arrived and spoke, and said it was the child of God, would anyone have listened? These days Shrek and 'Donkey' are acceptable.

So the obvious thing would be to become human. 2000 years ago life could have only been indescribable to us now, yet we have a real knowledge of that time through science and history.

If you wanted to talk to someone 2000 years from now, how would you do it? Maybe burn a CD, or DVD. 30 years ago, Cd's and DVDs didn't exist.

Yet 2000 years ago (maybe 1600 years) people wrote a book, which still teaches good morals and ethics to this day.

Morals and ethics that are apt to our lives now. Yet we question them as if they are just fairy tales. Maybe Shrek and Donkey are the morals of 2000 years time? Who knows.

I think part of the reason would be to have the name, God. it would be a little strange. it doesn't mean that he wasn't God, He just needed to take on a different name. that also may have been a way to distinguish the difference between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. though, they are also one. I bet that if you search the scriptures you will find alot more answers than I can give you.

God the Word did not cease being God when He became Jesus by taking on Himself our human nature.for that is how He became close to us. The name Jesus means "The Lord Saves" and is very appropriate name for God who became man to save us. His name was still God and Lord and Yah,but often in the Bible when people's life changed they would take another name.

GOD did not come down to Earth in the first place. The world was so full of sin, he sent his one and only son.. JESUS.. to save the world.

Im not too sure on that one. If he came down and said I'M GOD, who would have believed him anyway. Jesus came down as a simple man, lived a simple life. He needed to be this way to be accepted and for people to listen. He told us of God and then proved his love for all mankind by dying for us. If that cant humble you, what could. Worked for me. I dont go to church but i do say my prayers.
