The toddler to pre-teen age is when children are best equipped to learn basic life skills, they will not remember tham per se, but be sub consciously inclined all through life to follow things they have learned at this age. The late pre-teen to teen years is when the brain is most able to receive and retain complex information. After young adulthood the brain mostly relies on what it has, with very limited ability to learn more.

First of all, I got to admit, its an Interesting question. But its not that easy of a question to answer. It all depends what kind of memory you are talking about... but according to many (and this paper.... in this website I found that support this statement) the working memory is at its best.... when people are 45 years old. Working memory is the practical memory you use in your daily life to process and manipulate information... such as were you put your keys or how to do something you already know how to do. Semantic memory in the other hand... which I think you are talking about here.. peaks around your 20-30.......... here is the link to the website

The best retention is in toddlers, around the ago of 5... this I learned from a Montessori program my little sister was in. That is why it is so easy for children to learn more than one language, verses us taking years to do it when we are older. My son is 20 months old and already speaking Spanish and English.

when for example learning a new language.. the human brain needs to really focus and this is the easiest when a person is still young.. ive found the older to learn for example a language, harder it gets as the human brain favours the old stuff... for little kids however they are used to the new language quick and are quick learners.. like with all that kinda stuff when your still little u learn the quickest
