c is pronounced something like s if it stands before e,i,y (e.g. cidre, ce) and like k before a,o,u (café) or a consonant
ch is pronounced sh (e.g. chinois - chinese, chemin - path) or k if it is followed by letter "r" (chretien - christian)
g is pronounced g (like in English garden) if it stands before a,o,u or h (e.g. baguette - french white bread) and like english sh if it is before e,i or y (garage, gymnastigue)
the h is not pronounced

You will find that differences in pronouncing c or g in most (all?) roman languages. As you mentioned ch is k in Italian - it is only because of the h that c is pronounced k there otherwise it would be tsh (camera (k) citta (tsh)

Please note that I may have dropped an accent or two in the french words but I hope it helps anyway

psyco would be pronounced p-syco as in the p IS pronounce

hopital would be pronounced with an aspirated h as in opital = hospital

ch = sh

these are the most obvious...and most difficult to learn

also the r comes from the throat...grrrr pirate-like

and most vowels are nasal
