I just burned my finger on a lawnmower engine, and it started blistering about 20 minutes later. I put ice on it, and it soothed the pain. It burns like it's on fire if I take the ice off,but how do I get permanent relief without a doctor's help?

you don't need medical help. i don't know what some of these hypochondriacs are talking about. get some burn cream. it keeps the air off the burn which helps soothe it plus it may have some topical lidocaine in it. if you don't want to go out just put a dab of butter on it for now. that'll stop most of the burn.

It is often the oxygen getting to your finger that makes it worse. Put on some burn cream or aloe vera and then put on a latex glove or wrap it in plastic wrap. Place the ice on over the covering. A bread bag makes a good vehicle to keep the ice in so you don't get it everywhere. I work as a chef so I've had my fair share of burns and I know exactly the feeling of the ones like you have where it only stops if you have your hand in ice and it is the only thing you can think about. It takes a few hours for the pain to settle but it does eventually stop. DO NOT burst the blister. It is full of fluid that is trying to repair the burn. Just keep up the ice. I used to carry round a frozen corn cob in my hand to soothe the burn. Time is all it will take, all of a sudden you will be able to forget about it. Good luck.

I teach first aid for the red cross. To relieve some of the pain you can take an over the counter pain reliever and run the finger under cool water. You shouldn't use ice as you can accidentally cause frostbite and/or the skin can stick and you would pull it off. Also, do not use any topical creams or butter, you would just be inviting infection. Once it is cool, keep it loosely wrapped and away from other heat sources.

See if you can find some medicine its a cream called Silver-dine . It soothes and protects but I think you need a prescription or you might get lucky and ask someone who has seen a Doc for burns .
Take Paper clean towels . Rap them around your finger and keep cool water on it till the pain is gone. Make sure if the skin is broken to keep it clean.

There isnt much you can do to relieve the pain from a burn without a docs help. DONT put any creams on it unless they are from your doc. those creams will only trap the burn in and make it feel worse. If you chose not to go to the doc your best bet would be plenty of cold water and ibuprofen every 4 hours
