You can be guilty of all kinds of sins, and yet experience the joy of forgiveness. You can have this joy when:

1. Quit denying your guilt and recognise that you have sinned.
2. Admit your guilt to God and ask for His forgiveness
3. Let go of your guilt and believe that God has forgiven you.

God's Word declares that sin confessed are sins forgiven.
(1 John 1 v 9).

TURN TO JESUS!
That is the only way-
To cast our burderns and sin upon Him, for He has taken it! He has set us free from sin and hell, when we believe that He died and rose again! When we repent of sin- He cleanses us and gives us a new heart! He has set me free from guilt and sin! When I am convicted, I know it is His Holy Spirit reminding me that He lives in me, and that I am new creation, no longer am I of the world, but I am HIS! Praise to Him!
To believers:
Galatians 5:1
[ Christ Has Set Us Free ] For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

For the purpose of getting rid of guilt is not really a good reason, for me it would come with sincerety of making amends. If it is not within your heart than you are not making the right choice. A person has go to with the right emotion of asking for forgiveness not just for releasing guilt here on earth. It is the right choice when it comes straight from the heart, people who are heartless asking for your forgiveness?? Making amends with people you have hurt is a healthy choice.

There is also "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" John 3:16 Repenting is fine but to me the real person should be spoken to also and whether they accept your apology is another thing.

Hmm, this is yet another way that religion harms society.

First, it lays down a major guilt trip about not being able to adhere a rather vague list of rules that are impossible to follow if you're human, then it offers itself as the "cure" for that guilt. This is emotional manipulation and this group guilt trip is one of the things that keeps so many psychologists gainfully employed.

Instead of feeling guilty over not being able to follow a list of impossible rules, accept that you are human. Define, for yourself, how you wish to fit into society and what you want your role to be. Then think about what is important in your life and what is not. After that, define a general heuristic for your life that works towards your goals. Define, for yourself, what you consider right and wrong. Be ready to make compromises when you want to deal with others with different values. And make sure you don't become dogmatic. Be willing to grow as you learn more. No rules are set in stone, though there are many in society that help us in dealing with each other.

Generally, if you live and let live, that's a good start. From there, work on your relationships with others that you feel close to. As long as you give others due respect, they will give you the same.

Then, when you feel guilty, which is natural, you'll forgive yourself easier and grow from the experience.

That is a much more comprehensive answer than your shallow three rules which are based on old superstitions.

A sinful lifestyle is a life without repentence or absence of love for the Lord Jesus and therefore no amount of asking for forgivness can deliver you. As you continue following a lie (delusion) or perverted/evil lifestyle you are walking without Jesus in your heart. A sin (mistake) occurs from time to time and you don't mean to fall down and are sorrowful when you do. God weighs and judges our hearts. He knows if we are sincere when asking for forgivness.

When you ask for forgivness, you are asking for grace and mercy as well as forgivness. Yet, you still have to repent (change your ways) and walk in the Spirit so that you don't fulfill the lusts of the flesh(carnal mind). This is a growth process and yet God helps you to grow from your mistakes. Conviction in this instance is needed for a season in order to bring you back to the cross to remind you what he endured to take away all your sins. He promises to throw away your sin into the sea of forgetfulness. Again, this is conditional and only attained by having a repentant heart, change of mind and Love for God and his Truth.

Those that are his are predestined to be conformed in his image. By accepting that Jesus has fulfilled all righteousness, you begin to grow in love with him and become less likely to fall into the same old mistakes. One more time, it is a growth process with Jesus.

Don't feel guilty, feel his conviction that brings repentance. It is the Holy Spirit doing his work in you and me.

In Christ,

Most important is to forgive yourself.
Next is to make amends if you really hurt someone (Otherwise just tell your mother to stop noging you)
God forgives anything but if you don't let go of your guilt it will haunt you the rest of your life.

CONFESS OUR SIN READILY AND REGULARLY because God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1 9; 2:1).

Um...don't you seem to be answering your own questions?

Besides, as an atheist I don't believe that your three steps make sense, and you can't expect me to believe that they do until you have given me some evidence for the Bible being true. Simply stating that it is true is not enough for a logical freethinker like me.
