Ecclesiasticus
Chapter 38 >
1 Honour the physician for the need thou hast of him: for the most High hath created him. 2 For all healing is from God, and he shall receive gifts of the king. 3 The skill of the physician shall lift up his head, and in the sight of great men he shall be praised. 4 The most High hath created medicines out of the earth, and a wise man will not abhor them. 5 Was not bitter water made sweet with wood?

Personally I see no conflict and believe if it had been included in the other versions we would not have seen so many labeled as witch but as healer.

I don't think you can really claim that doctors are approved in catholic countires and not in protestant ones because of the Old Testament Apocrypha. Besides everything else we haven't precluded study of all sorts of books on specialist knowledge in any area - so we used our own medical knowledge as well as classical and Arab medecine.

For instance, in the UK we had Harvey, who was the guy who realised the blood circulated, Jenner - the smallpox innoculation discoverer, Lister who developed anaesthetics, etc.

Developing the medical profession is a matter of common sense. We may have lost a lot of herbal remedy folk wisdom, but that is probably due to the medical professionals wanting to take over the health area, when science was very greatly valued, and anything smacking of superstition deprecated.

Well the fact is that before modern medicine people did go straight to the earth for remedies. Modern medicines all derive from things discovered in nature, which is one of the reasons that the vanishing rain forest is such a tragedy.

There is however a difference between using natural remedies and going to what people call a healer. That usually brings with it an element of spiritism which christians must stay away from.

I think this verse displays wisdom. I am not Catholic and have never read Ecclesiasticus, I am thinking I should review it. Thanks.

*Edit* One question, do you know why it was rejected from the printed Bible. I grew up Baptist and was taught that the books not included had fault in some way. Why was this particular book not included?

God on no account stated to interpret His be conscious. He tells us to verify it and study it. interpreting basically ability you have positioned your own opinion into the mixture/your own twist on issues. there are any such great form of different "Christian" denominations (alongside with Catholics) because of the fact of individuals interpreting the Bible. i don't see that the Catholic church is something like the church homes in the Bible, given to us as an occasion!

unfortunately the protestant bible only goes to chapter 12.
however most of us Christian do believe that physicians are gifts from God, and that it is God that has given them their skill.
so yes i agree that there is no conflict.

Yes, no conflict. To me, it reaffirms that all power and glory comes from God, that's what it says.
