the thing just would not start. It clicks when I go to start it, but nothings happening, the radio comes on?! I lifted the bonnet and it was VERY hot considering I haven't been out much today. Though it was hot today wasn't it? Well, I had to get a push to get home and luckily it started, but I was in unknown territory so naturally by sods law I go down one of the longest dead ends with clumps of tarmac missing joke of a road you will find of a sunday night and have to come back again. To add to my horror, the temperature thingy on the dash was hitting the red! I thought it was either going to explode or just conk out on me at the lights somewhere. Thankfully, I made it back in time for corrie, or so I thought anyway, but now the thing is stuck diagonally parked on the drive in front of a bl**dy skip. Any help will be appreciated.

I hope the engine hasn't seized from the heat. A bad water pump or broken radiator will do that.
Look for the fan in front of your radiator...if you can't turn it by hand the engine is a total loss.

A strange combination of things. Firstly do you have any lights on the dash that should not be on? Try topping up the water when the car is cold and see if it leaks out anywhere. The two problems may not be connected but if the battery is iffy and the fan is runnning a long while after turning the engine off it could be enough to flatten it. Your overheating problem is the more serious of the two. Check your oil as well!!

Shelcom when was the last time you looked under the bonnet of a car? Fans are electrically powered and thus not connected to the engine.

If it clicks and theres plenty of juice in the battery, you could have a knackered solenoid on the starter motor, however, if its very hot and no water, its siezed.

What about Corrie though tonight eh?
