So, he told me to do it. I had instructions on the first generation model from sony that said to open it and clean the dust if it had problems reading disks. I did that to this newer generation, thin model PS2 and when we put it back together, it wouldn't spin the disk. After tweaking a bit, it will spin the disk, but pop up with "cannot read disk" and goes directly to the browser instead of starting the DVD. What do I do?

You could have it repaired but I have no idea on what that would cost. You could buy a brand new PS2 for 129.99 or if you want to skew even lower buy a used PS2 at a specialty gameshop such as Gamestop or EB games.

Maybe the disc is the problem try putting in another disc and see if the same problem occurs, Actually if I were in your shoes I would call up Sony (Look for the 1800 number in the PS2 instruction booklet) and ask them how much it might cost- Plus factor in shipping and handling costs. Who knows it might be cheaper to have it fixed by sony.

The PS2's are around $99.95 or so now, so there's not much of a problem. I don't know the price there, but that's how much it is here in Wisconsin.

Well, if you dont have an abusive husband, theres one problem out of the way, your next problem is going to be having to shell out the money for a new one, because you voided the warranty.
