I have had both oval and round. I seen no difference in the way they cook. I did find that the oval ones are larger more roomy for beef roast, you have room to put the veggies around the roast instead of on top. But i don't see where it makes a difference in the way they cook

Crock-Pot is a brand name. Crock-Pot was the first, and may be the best known, modern slow cooker. All Crock-Pots are slow cookers, but not all slow cookers are Crock-Pots. Slow cookers are also made by Hamilton Beach, KitchenAid. Presto, Cuisinart, and many other manufacturers. They are accurately called slow cookers, not crock pots. But, just as some people call all tissues Kleenex, some people call all slow cookers Crock-Pots. All slow cookers do the same thing -- cook slowly. Some have features that others don't -- High, Low, Medium, and Warm settings; are programmable; etc. Some are much more expensive than others. I prefer the Crock-Pot brand over all the others I've ever tried, even the very expensive ones. They're reasonably priced, available in several sizes and colors, come in round and oval shapes so you can choose the one that best fits on your counter and in your cupboard, come with a variety of features, and they last a long time.

I have a round one and a rectangular one. Both cook equally well, but my rectangular cooker can be used for both slow cooking and regular cooking, and it is much bigger.
You might like to go to the library and look up slow cookers in the "Consumer Reports" magazine. They independently evaluate all kinds of products we use, even cars, and compare them so we can choose what is best for our needs. Don't just read the charts, read the entire article.

Yes, they cook the same way. I think the oval are usually larger. Just get the size that you need and a reliable brand.

You can fit a whole chicken or roast in the oval one, they wouldn't fit in a round one of the same volume.

Yes they cook the same way. It just depends on the preference that you want personally. I have a round one myself and I LOVE it. Got it from Wal-Mart and I cook in it alot, especially on those days that I am not in the mood to stand over the stove.

They cook the food the same way, but the oval one allows you to cook a longer piece of meat.
