Yes, I am an Eagle Scout. I earned the 21 required to become and Eagle Scout. I have 35 Merit Badges and a few partials- I just need one more, then I have a Bronze, Silver and Gold Palm.
I am quite offended by the first personmade to your question. In Scouting, merit badges aren't "free." While there are some leaders and parents that aren't scout-like, merit badges are NOT free.
Also, while yes merit badges are important, scouting is more about the experience. I have gained a lot from scouting and I have/am trying to give back to scouting.

I am an Eagle Scout and have been for many years. If you are working on your Eagle rank, stick with it . You will be glad you did. It is an accomplishment of which you will be proud your whole life. To this day, I still use the outdoor camping and survival skills I learned as a scout, and there is no better leadership training.
Be prepared, and do a good turn daily!
