No, I think it is actually a smart decision on your part not to drink. You have plenty of time for that when you are of legal age, if you want.
I know people that never drink, and no one looks at them funny, or thinks anything bad about it. It is a decision that is not anyone else's and you do not have to explain it to anyone.

Everyone has their own reasons for the decisions they make, and yours (whatever they are) are no less valid than anyone else's. So don't worry about what other people are going to think...if they would judge you harshly for that, they're not the people you want as friends anyway.
But it's just like anything else in life. You can make a big deal about it, and let it get in your way, or you can use it to propel you ahead of others. Think of people who make more of an issue out of their race than anyone else who encounters them. They're so busy carrying that cross around, they don't have time to be happy and succeed. Then there are others who say, "yeah, I'm [insert race here], it's cool, let's move on." People with physical disabilities suffer a lot for their limitations; but many don't let that stop them from living fabulously successful, rewarding lives.
Your issue is not as weighty as race or disability, and I don't mean any disrespect to anyone in either of those catagories. But if you put your situation in perspective to what these people deal with on a daily basis, it's really not all that bad. It's only as big of a deal as you let it be. Be proud of who you are.

I believe it is awesome that you are commited to not drinking. I have not had a drink in over 15 years and proud of it. True friends will not judge you because you do not drink. A real friend will accept you for who you are. It is bothersome sometimes when others do not want to hang out with you because you do not drink but remember you are the better person for it.

In the US the legal drinking age is 21 so I wouldn't judge. I did not drink until well into my 20's. I got teased but if the people are your friends they will respect your decision. It was not until after my best friend got pregnant did she understand what I saw every Saturday night. She couldn't believe how stupid people acted...told her it was because she was always one of the stupid people. Don't worry about it. Do what feels right and you'll find friends who agree with you.

No one is going to judge you but you would make more friends and have more fun if you did decide to drink.
With that being said, there are certainly downsides to drinking, but the bottom line is that you're in college so you should have as much fun as humanly possible. This includes drinking. You have your whole life after college to be responsible.

If i knew someone your age ( i do) that doesn't drink (she doesn't) I wouldn't judge her. I don't have any strong feelings if she declines a drink.. I don't make fun of her. It is her descision. I am glad that out of the other 3 people that are drinking she sticks to what she wants. She doesn't collapse with peer pressure (well we weren't pressuring her.. just asked 1 time..) After she declined a beer I asked if she wanted a water or soda.. left it at that. No big deal.. Its great that she is so strong.

Perhaps if you've made it known, people see it as criticism.
You can always order your drinks 'virgin' without alcohol.
Only the bartender needs to know what is 'not' in it.
Start going to the watering holes your college mates do.
Around here you'd be called a designated driver.
And your drinks would probably be on the house.
If you go to a private party though, be sure to fix your own drinks.
Some immature people think it is funny to doctor a drink.

No mature person would criticize you for not drinking. The key word is mature though. If someone does, then you know they might not be the best company for you. To improve your social standing, try to join clubs that interest you and get involved. That forces you to talk to others and you are more likely to find someone you would like to spend time with. The key to a good college experience is getting out there and participating...if not you will regret it later. And seriously...everyone loves a DD.

Only an idiot would judge you and ya don't want to hang out with idiots. I have actually gone out to bars and had no alcohol. I never cared what anyone thought whether I was drinking or not. Most people assume you are drinking because they don't know what is in your glass. I used to go and never drank anything but water. It's no biggie!!!

No, I wouldn't judge or ridicule!
My son is in college and he and his friends rarely drink.
I didn't drink at that age either and had lots of friends.
There are lots of ways to have fun without drinking, and lots of people who don't drink. You just have to look a little to find them.
Be strong, you are on a good track!
