Yes, I can, but I won't. Prayer is a waste of time.

Your time would be better spent actually helping some random person.

Yes, Amen you can pray for anyone randomly. I do it everday. I ask God to help strangers and bless them, meaning the people I do not klnow. If it is layed on your heart to pray for anyone then it is God laying them on our heart to be prayed for. The power of prayer changes things. You never know what can happen and the good that will come out of praying for someone randomly. Examples, if you feel led to pray for a stranger that just passed you buy, your prayer to God could bring sa;lvation to their life, or a healing, a breakthrough. God works in mighty different ways. I say go for it and do what you feel when God tells you to do something.

You may pray for whatever you want to pray for or for whomever you want to pray. Since God's Providence is for everyone, it doesn't seem quite sensible to ask God to "bless somebody today." Faith would tell you that God already does that, so what's the point? However, you might pray for the next person who will die in this city or hospital, or for the people who will board this bus at the next stop, or for the first one of my family who will be married, etc., etc. Perhaps it might be better for one to pray by praising God for His goodness to all people and by thanking Him for His providence to all of us.

God blesses alot of people every day. So, that prayer would definitely be answered. You may be better with a generalization. For instance, bless the homeless, bless a single mother (or Father) or whatevers on your mind.

I do when I pray at night I say I pray for everyone I talk to, seen or came into contact with. I don't want to leave anyone out. I also pray that let tonight all the people in pain and discomfort be at ease. Let no killing happen or accidents. Let tonight have peace.

Yes, lots of churches have in their liturgy things like "Lord, we lift up to you all those who are in sickness, disease and poverty around the world..." or "We pray for all of those fighting in the war in Iraq and other wars around the globe..." etc.
So of course you can pray for people you don't know. For most of us, though, there are so many people we do know and want to pray for, I don't even make it through my list most days.....I do know and believe that He hears them all, TBTG.
My girls have the habit of praying whenever we see or hear an ambulance. (Silently, and just a few seconds)Also whenever they see someone smoking....
(It was the only way I could break them of the habit of screaming: "LOOK! SHe's SMOKING!" I told them they had to be quiet and pray for that person and never even let them know it. So now, when they see a person smoking I see them look very serious for a few seconds. It's really kind of sweet.)

I do that alot.
Anyone stuck by the side of the road, any ambulence going by, all police and fire personnel on their way to a job-- or anyone that I see that somehow could use some kind thoughts towards them.
If I feel so moved, I even buy the person behind me their morning coffee.

I *try* to live my faith as best as I can...

Do whatever you like, but God knows what you want anyway, and doesn't care about human rules unless they're laws of the land, then he cares a bit, but not enough to do anything about it.
Thinking good thoughts about strangers strikes me as an admirable way to feel, a way towards a better world, there's no need to involve an imaginary friend.

I do it sometimes.
For example, if I'm walking through the store & the person at the checkout line seems tired or grumpy I will say a random prayer for them. Another time is whenever I pass accidents on the highway, I say a prayer for the people involved.

Of course you can! It's a great prayer too. A lot of people have no-one to pray for them specifically.
