That's so sweet!!! I love it when children and teenagers take interest in animals. Well, I suppose you already know that they're a lot of responsibility, but I'm not going to preach to you because no one ever told me that and I took care of mine all on my own as I grew up.
Boxers are very good dogs. Any dog can be wonderful, as long as you raise them correctly, with love and care. Believe it or not, Labrador Retrievers and Dalmations are the meaner ones that can be a threat towards children and other animals.
My boyfriend's friend has two Boxers, and they're very friendly. I think that if you want one, tell your parents that you know that you can take care of it, will potty train it, and will do everything that you are supposed to, like feeding and watering him once or twice a day (Depending on how old he is. Younger dogs need less water and food in the beginning.).
I hope this helps!

Yes, boxers are great dogs. I have two, and we have no problem with them while I am school or at my friends house (I am 13) They are active, but if you have a big backyard like you say (we do too) they will often exercise themselves, especially if you have another dog. They are great around children ( if you have younger siblings) and don't bark or roam. They don't shed a lot and don't require much more grooming than a bath and a quick brush. I would recommend them to anyone for a "first dog". They cost around 300 dollars for a A.K.C registered puppy. So, you should check out a boxer rescue shelter. They live around 8 years and become more of a family member than a dog. They do however contract cancers and get sunburned easily. If you live somewhere very hot or very cold I wouldn't recommend them. If you have anymore questions about them feel free to email me.

Boxers are great dogs, but they are VERY high energy dogs and will require a great deal of your time. If not interacted with much they can get bored and destructive. If you can exericse and train and play with the dog _every day_, a boxer might be a good fit. Why not google for "boxer rescue"? Rescue people will know why owners get rid of boxers and what sort of environment is a good fit for one.

I looove Boxers, and am going to get one as soon as I have my own house. I think they're the sweetest most fun dogs ever - but they're not easy dogs to keep. They have VAST amount of energy as you know - not that that should necessarily be a problem, but they are one of the breeds most prone to destructive behaviour. Proper training is therefore a must, they're not dogs for beginners!
The other important thing to know about boxers is that they're also very prone to heart problems. I don't want to be alarmist, but they do occasionally drop dead without warning, even when they're young. I'm very much in favour of getting rescue dogs, but when I choose my first boxer I'm going to get a young pup from a reputable breeder, and I'm going to have it checked VERY thoroughly by a vet - if it's got heart problems, I want to know about it!
Of course, I might be a tad biased, I'm a vet nurse and you do tend to see the more unfortunate side of certain breeds (i.e their illnesses). Still, I just think it's best to know about potential problems. I'm still going to get one, and once I'm an experienced boxer owner I'm going to rescue all the boxers in the world!!

Boxers are good breeds, especially if they are well cared for. It sounds like you will give your new dog a good home. Think about adopting a dog from a shelter, or find a boxer rescue group. Good luck with the new dog!!!

I have a 1 year old Boxer and he is the greatest dog. They are very intelligent, loyal, family dogs. He loves kids and is very gentle around them. But!!!!......... you need a lot of time to spend with them. They have a ton of energy. My yard is fenced in and he runs around out there all day but they still need to be walked every day. Also if you get one as a puppy you HAVE TO train them from day one not to jump up on people. My dog is now 80 pounds, all muscle and gets real excited when someone comes in the yard or the house, and could really hurt some people if we hadn't trained him to stop jumping on people when he sees them.

Yes boxers are very loving loyal dogs. Just make sure when it is a puppy you socialize it!! When you do this you introduce it to other dogs and let them play. This will make him loving to other dogs and not mean!!!
Boxers are great!!

boxers can be great dogs- if they are well-disciplined when they are young. My negihbours had a boxer who just did not understand his own strength and size. He jumped up on everyone and knocked them to the floor. He was very good with their young daughter though and put up with a lot of unknowing abuse from her (she would roll his skin up and bite it when her parents weren't around)- and he never knowingly hurt anyone...
