Klaryuk is right. The next question should be, "How does a conscious thought or perception cause an electrochemical nerve impulse to begin". Example: when a man perceives a naked woman and thinks sex his penis engorges in an erection. This is a conscious thought or perception causing a physical action. Very mysterious.

It's bioelectric caused by chemical conversion which generates heat and electricity as a by-product. It requires a source supply of "something" which we call fuel or food, deprive the unit of that and it ceases to produce heat and electricity after a period of time.
Without replensihment organic becomes inorganic.

I was going to say a chemical reaction, but since reading some of the answers I'll say that their source is one of many biological systems that God designed and put into operation in the human body.

It is called the cation pump it is basically clever chemistry involving sodium and potassium. These two chemicals interact and produce an electric charge which sends impulses along the nerves and makes your synapses fire. thus carrying along the message from the brain to your body. Mind. Mind forms the body (all physicality); it forms the brain, (by becoming it) and at once, agrees to be temporarily subject to the brain's limits, i.e. brain injury/retardation/genius, etc.
Mind does this as a way to experience "Life" as we know it, to learn how to use energy, how to love, and communicate with others. We are so much more than we realize.
