Like most digital cameras, your camera has a battery saving feature that automatically turns the camera off after a pre-set time (like 3 minutes) if you are not actively taking pictures.

Example: You turn the camera on and take a picture, then walk around looking for another thing to photograph. When 3 minutes passes, the camera turns off.

All you have to do to keep the camera on is to press the shutter button (the one you press to take a picture) or the zoom buttons (T or W). Pressing the shutter halfway down causes to refocus without taking a picture.

If you look in your menus, you'll find the settings that allow you to adjust the auto-off feature.

As far as batteries go, try using NiMH rechargable batteries with the highest mAh rating you can get. Kodak makes NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries with a 2500mAh rating.

The shutter button is the button you press to take a picture.

When you take a picture, pressing the shutter button causes a shutter (door), between the lens and film, to open briefly exposing the film/sensor to the light passing through the lenses. This is what makes the picture.

I have had good experience with Energizer E2 Lithium AA size batteries. They last a long time in my cameras.

read the manual, or just press the button to zoom because that should wake it up. or, return the camera and get a canon. they're easy
