If help is not received, the victim may experience post traumatic stress disorder. Symptoms include:

Intrusion: Since the sufferers are unable to process the extreme emotions brought about by the trauma, they are plagued by recurrent nightmares or daytime flashbacks, during which they graphically re-experience the trauma. These re-experiences are characterized by high anxiety levels and make up one part of the PTSD symptom cluster triad called intrusive symptoms.

Hyperarousal: PTSD is also characterized by a state of nervousness with the patient being prepared for "fight or flight". The typical hyperactive startle reaction, characterized by "jumpiness" in connection with high sounds or fast motions, is typical for another part of the PTSD cluster called hyperarousal symptoms and could also be secondary to an incomplete processing.

Avoidance: The hyperarousal and the intrusive symptoms are eventually so distressing that the individual strives to avoid contact with everything and everyone, even their own thoughts, which may arouse memories of the trauma and thus provoke the intrusive and hyperarousal states. The sufferers isolate themselves, becoming detached in their feelings with a restricted range of emotional response and can experience so-called emotional detachment ("numbing"). This avoidance behavior is the third part of the symptom triad that makes up the PTSD criteria.

Dissociation: Dissociation is another "defense" that includes a variety of symptoms including feelings of depersonalization and derealization, disconnection between memory and affect so that the person is "in another world," and in extreme forms can involve apparent multiple personalities and acting without any memory ("losing time").

You CAN change the impact by receiving treatment for anxiety, depression, and related issues. Treating the trauma will require extensive therapy.

I think it depends on how young you were when it happened. There a therapies for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, you could research that. I recommend meditation, it will at least help you to calm down, learn more about yourself, and not act impulsively. You might not ever overcome it but you can learn to deal with yourself and your own patterns of thinking and behavior. If you don't you may suffer from depression, anger, drug or alcohol abuse. I recommend a book called The Drama of the Gifted Child, the search for the true self and other books by Alice Miller. Childhood trauma and it's effects is her area of expertise and you would learn a lot from her!

Depending on what kind of trauma! Also depends on the person and if they want to get rid of it and get past it...because if they dont there is no way...if they do there is several ways...If it is a rape or molestation..then yes..I have taught woment against rape and have had good success with helping women get back there lives and over the trauma...they go thru some self inventory, soul searching, forgiviness, self defence classes and change the way they look at things which brings a whole new light and life to them. If it is death I would say it is up to the person and their what they believe that will determine if they are to get past it..It really does depend on the trauma...I have had several..and got past them all...I know several who have...you I would have to say yes...if they want to...bad enough....it sometimes is not easy...but well worth it...hope it helps

There is a solution. You should understand that incidents whatever they are do happen in life and that we are not perfect. Always try to better your self and remember that it takes strength to rise up against circumstances that you can not control; ive seen people get hurt and shot and i know that u can overcome trauma spiritually and by being real with your self. The best thing to do is live your life believe Gid is with you and discover your purpose.

I think its very possible the fact is its truly up to you...you could of had a shity life and as a result of it been really mean...tough, hardheaded. but someone whos had the same life could of still been able to be nice and kind, a good heart and very real. I am a victim to many traumas and much more when I was younger...I could of all my life held a grudge and take it out on the world but what I always wanted this whole time was happiness...if i become what my past tried to make me I would have lived my life angry and with so much hate but what would I have gained? depression? all I want is to be happy!..whats weird though is that many people don't know that they can control their own destiny and how they feel about something..dont let others peoples expectation of how your'e supposed to be inflict how your'e gonna act..try to find spiritual enlightment it worked for me, try talking to someone (a therapist can be helpful ) one thing that always helped me is expression try to find your creative side (drawing, writing, singing) it will be overcome if you want it to... the more you dwell on it the more stress it will cause you in the long run...

Trauma can be dealt with in counseling with honest and open discussions. A child can benefit from counseling or an adult deal with a childhood trauma, called post trauma stress disorder.

You cannot change history but you can learn to change what you can, deal with things as they surface, and learn to shut out and ignore things you cannot change. That is done is counseling.

There is PTSD therapy for adult survivors of childhood trauma.
Without therapy, the adult could become paranoid, avoid friendships & intimate relationships, or feel like they could have avoided the abuse somehow.
