I did not believe true love existed until that day when God revealed Himself to me as the One who had sent His Son from heaven to die on a cross for my sins. It was at the time I hated God most that He demonstrated His kindness towards me, and saved me, causing me to be born again of the Spirit when I did not even know such a thing was possible.

People can learn about the many ways of giving and receieving love at a very young age. You begin to learn about love when your Momma sings you a lullabye, and maybe when you and Dad try to make her that special Mother's Day breakfast. Or, when you painted that tuna can and stuck it on a stick for Dad to put out in the yard...a place he could put his drink while working in the yard. Maybe you learned about love when your friends all got together to celebrate a birthday or some other major event. Did you ever give or receive a gift that involved real sacrifice? That was love. Ever take part in aranging a bridal shower, or a baby shower for your special friend? Or, if you're a guy, did you help with the arrangements for the all-important bachelor party? You were showing love for your friend.
Mr. Rogers taught that there were many ways of showing the people you love how much you care about them. You can cook or clean or shop for them, you can make them a special gift, or spend a bit of time talking with them, you can send them a card, or a special e-mail any time...there are so many ways to say "I love you" that you will never be able to count them all...
Unfortunately, however, most people still think that love means sex, when, so often, love has absolutely nothing at all to do with the sex act, and people who indulge in sex that doesn't involve a lasting commitment find themselves humiliated, depressed, deserted, and just plain miserable, at best. Even worse, they find themselves infected with something that, as the old folks say, Ajax won't wash off. Folks ought to be alot more careful about how they use that most precious intimacy of all...
How old were you when you figured out that you can give and receive love in a myriad of ways that do not involve sex at all??
When you can figure out what love really is, you have made a major step down the road toward maturity...

I grew up in the 60's. I saw the civil rights movement and I was young when I realized that prejudice was disgusting. That was my 'cause' as a young child and young adult.

My 'cause' now is equal rights for all people without regard to sexual orientation.

My family was not the "close-knit", loving sort, exc. for my Dad. I think it was when I was 10 (the oldest kid) and totally bonded to my youngest sister after she was born. I took care of her then and as she grew up. That was pure love and caring. I remember those days very fondly!

Luckily for me, I got to use that experience as a building block for raising my own, wonderful kid!

P.S.: Nice response, gorgeous woman from TX!!! Brings back great memories of protest marches, arguments, fighting for what is right! It doesn't have to be "family" for you to care...very cool.
