Bench press is more intense than the push up. on the bench press you have either a barbell or Dumbbells and you have to recruit more muscles to work in order to stabilize the weight.
On the bench press, you can progressively get stronger, whereas with the push up, the only way your getting stronger is if you getting more muscle or your getting fatter.
The bech press is flat out better no matter what comparison you have it in.

The difference between the two exercises: push-ups involve move muscles than bench pressing, including the back; push-ups are more aerobic, and push-ups require many more repetitions to fully work the muscles.
Bench pressing isolates the exercise to upper arms and shoulders, which works the muscles to fatigue with fewer repetitions; bench pressing does not use back muscles if done properly; a person can build much more strength with weights because you can lift more than you weigh.
Most people who exercise for general fitness do both bench presses and push-ups in their exercise routine, while body builders tend to do weights only so they can isolate the different muscle groups.

push ups are chest exercises which help develop your pecs, also the resistance of doing this exercise comes from your own body weight, while some are partial to bench presses because of different positions being used while lifting the weight (flat, inclined and declined), push ups are actually harder and more intense because your body weight becomes your base weight, rather than starting from a much lighter weight in bench presses.

They work different parts of your pecs. Push ups replicate an incline press focusing on the upper chest where as a bench press is a 90* motion focusing on the middle chest. Do both or, do a cycle of flat (bench), incline, and decline.

pushups- you are going against your own body weight..you gain more strength by doing this and gain muscle. Bench presses are when you lay on a bench and push the weights you are holding up into the air, and back down again (to chest level) it may build more muscle.. and make you a better bench presser, but it doesn't compare to pushups for building strength.

When you use your own body weight, you will gain lean muscle and tone up your body.
When you use weight, you are isolating a certain muscle and you will bulk up, but not necessarily gain a lot of strength.
Just depends on what your goal is!
