Im going to the ortho on Tuesday... and he normaly really hurts me... i asked him last time to be gentle.. and it didnt hurt that much.

But i think i mayb be getting my braces tightened this time... as ive had them on for about 7 months now and havent had them tightened.

People say this hurts the first time you get them tightened and he hurts at the best of times!!

Any advice on how i could stop it hurting? Ive got some gel to ease pain, But what about tablets? Will they help ? And how long before i go should i take them?

don't worry about it so much...you'll be fine! maybe you could try taking some paracetamol about 20mins before you go in so that they have chance to work.

it doesn't hurt while they are been tightened just your teeth ache afterwards.

good luck and you'll be fine xxxx

I've had braces for about two years, and it is honestly not as bad as you think, plus you get lovely straight teeth at the end of it, so just keep remembering that!

It doesn't actually hurt when you get them tightened. My orthodontist sometimes scrapes my teeth accidentally with tools he's using. It doesn't hurt but is a bit uncomfortable.

When you get the wires tightened, obviously, it is quite difficult as the space is restricted. Once they're tightened you'll feel the pressure on your back teeth and the roof of your mouth.

If you don't take the painkillers beforehand, you usally begin to feel pain about 20-30 minutes afterwards. I suggest taking them 30-20 minutes before hand. I usually take paracetamol and ibruprofen before I go, then just paracetamol whenever I need it. The aching never lasts more than 3-4 days.

My daughter gets her braces tightened every 4 weeks, to be honest with you, she achey for about 3 days afterwards, and to help her she drinks warm tea and takes ibuprofen and paracetamol. Bonjela or any gels like that dont really work, but dont worry, it does go away after a couple of days.

HELLO,
THE BEST THING TO TAKE IS IBUPROFEN(ADVIL), 2 OR 3 EVERY 4-6 HOURS. THE PAIN IS DIFRDERENT FROM PERSON TO PERSON. BUT AFTER ABOUT 2 OR 3 DAYS IT WILL FEEL MUCH BETTER.
