My name is Rick and I am a Dell Customer Advocate located in the corporate headquarters in Round Rock TX.
If you like you can post about your specific issues and I would be glad to see if I can help resolve those. But I personally have had little to no problems with the several Dell computers that I and my family has owned.
For a more accurate representation of the amount or percentage of people having issues with any company you might want to go to a review site as opposed to a site designed to assist with issues. I have found this site to be extremely helpful with technical issues, but as it is a place people come with their problems you are less likely to run into people who have had no issues and are happy with their product, as they would not necessarily be coming here.

If you have all the CD's one thing you could do, is reformat the hard drive, and reinstall windows, or upgrade your current version to XP if you don't have it. Dont bother with vista.
I have dell dimension 4100, about 12 years old. Added some ram, and upgraded to xp, runs like a charm. 800mhz
