There is no break-in point for a VW. They have alwasy told my family from the day you drive it off the lot to...

DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT.

Also, we have had salesman and technicians tell us drive it hard because if something is going to break (which is so rare) better for it to break while the car is under warranty!

As with most new cars the best thing you can do is drive it and when your on the freeway don't hold a steady speed, the speed when new is best to speed up and then down a slight bit, this will help seat the piston rings after the first 500 miles its a good idea to change the oil and filter. After that there should not be any problem with oil usage. By the way there is a TSB about excessive oil usage on those so watch the oil usage the first 2,000 miles after there should not be any oil usage between oil changes. Good Luck and GOD Bless

Well, also called running-in period. AS the engine is new,it is necessary to run the car at moderate speeds, say max 80km/hr and RPM before gear change (in the case of manual drives) until the first 1500km. This ensures that the engine components, i.e piston rings and cylinder bore, etc takes shape (fully embeded). This also helps reduce rapid wear and excess fuel consumption. But most importantly, please refer to the user manual for latest detailed information about the running in period, oil top ups for the first specific distances etc.Goodluck!

Get it inspected by a certified mechanic first. 35K is right around the mileage where it may start needing things like new tires and brakes, so take that into consideration. It certainly is a fun car, but the reliability on used VW's is suspect. I would also look at the used Honda Civic Si.

well all i can say is if you just bought the car. Then just read thru the manual and it will explain in detail what you must do in order to properly break the engine in. BTW, what FIAT guy say about the oil change, thats a good idea, too. (even if your manual doesnt say it)

Please take 90 minutes read and understand the owners handbook and place tabs of paper on things you will need again like maintence oil viscosity and setting the clock.

Read your owners manual and ignore anyone who says things like "break it in hard if you drive it hard"
