Microwave can only destroy substances that can be destroyed by boiling. Plants get nutrients from the soil. People can help by adding a little "plant food" to the water for house plants. Plant food is usually such inorganic salts as ammonium, nitrates, potassium, or phosphate. These are unaffected by boiling or microwave. It is possible that the "researchers" rigged the experiment by using distilled water LOL.

Microwaves cause molocules to move fast creating friction that cause heat. This happens throughout the food being place in the microwave. You should not microwave any meat because it alters the protein and makes it harder to digest. The microwave is good for many other foods and liquids are especially o.k.
You should not stand close to a microwave when operating. Regardless of how safe they say these machines are, they emit waves that will take energy from your body. This can technically harm you, even though it may be small, it still can reduce your energy and can cause issues with your body functions.
In regard to microwaving water and pouring it on plants, I cannot see any reason this would have that affect. A good experiment would be to take two identical plants and pour both kinds of water on them and see what happens.
good luck to you

Actually the microwave is the most effective method in cooking for removing fat. Healthier way of cooking. Far as removing nutrients I don't think so. You're right Captain Jack, but I think you meant far as microwaving food on plastic bowls, containers, and plates. If what you said is true then they should recall all microwaves.

Why do you think of microwaring foodstuff distroys the food. in case you do a splash diagnosis you will discover microwaves have little consequence of the nutrient ranges of ingredients. don't think each and every little thing you pay attention or examine.

1. if plants were only being fed water, microwaved or not, that means there were no nutrients being fed to them
2. the plants probably died because of the lack of nutrients not because of the microwaving of the water

It's been proven that the radiation coming from the microwave can cause cancer but I don't know about it taking nutrients out.

I have hears that it does destroy the nutrients - but like almost every other home in the US we have one I just don't use it very much at all, not only because it dstroys nutrients but also because it dries the food out untill you almost can't even eat it
