Men are enemies of God by nature. This is the plain teaching of Scripture. They are hostile in their thoughts and deeds, and only through the miracle of the new birth is this hostile nature removed.
Jesus said "You must be born again."
But who wants to hear that they have been wrong all their life?

Denial? Peace? Hope?
Get over yourself. I used to be a Christian, but I turned from it because I realized I was in denial of the TRUTH. And for your information, atheists/agnostics can have "peace and hope," too. Without religion in the world, there'd actually be a lot more of that.
Even if that weren't the case, I don't need hope to live my life. I just live it.

Or maybe it could be the fact that you're trying to put superstitious nonsense in the schools, passing legislation to discriminate against people you don't like, preventing atheists from running for state gov't, and giving tax money to christian organizations that push dogma over facts all while screaming persecution? Yeah, I bet that's it.

I believe that there is a deep desire to believe that we can control our lives and that we can rationalize our own existence, which means we can create our own version of what it right and wrong. Believers understand that God's Word is the only truth and He can be trusted to guide lives in happiness and fulfillment. The world is lost because it goes in every which way following after its own lusts.

This may be true of some, however many really do not see and are angered by our prostelitizing because they are as firm in their convictions as we are in ours.
So,both sides continue the battle,in hopes that one party will see the light or that the other party will extinguish it.

If you consider the rejection or questioning of your beliefs to be 'fighting' then you're clearly not very secure in your religion, and are probably in denial yourself.

I think it is the fact of giving up control of your life to someone you don't even see.
Yes, it's called faith.
Even Christians struggle with this.
