find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

At least 1500 a day and that should be made up from vegetables, fruit, carbs such as pasta, rice and starchy foods and protein. Loose the sugar and fat as these are 'empty' calories. And increase your workout, you will soon loose weight healthily.

Depends on a lot of other factors but you can certainly lose weight taking in 1000 'good' calories per day.

It depends on how overweight you are. If not much, you can drop to about 1,200. If you're very overweight, I need to lose about 80 pounds, then you could go to 1,500 - it's a slow process and you can't starve yourself because your body will resist. The more overweight you are, then the higher the intake because it's still less than you're probably used to which will get your body going. Once you start losing, you can start dropping the intake - slowly. You need to check what's recommended. I think it also depends on whether you're male or female. Check webmd.com.
