Okay, here's a chance for the atheists and theists to really fight it out. I won't say my religion to keep it neutral.

Rules and Guidelines:
-the Bible/Qu'ran/Torah is not a valid source of information
-You can't just claim stuff randomly
-You must argue logically
-No yelling at other answer-ers, take it seriously.

I'll choose the answer that makes the most sense, whether I agree with it or not.

I only said that religious texts aren't valid because
-they have unclear authorship
-have been around for a long time and could be muddled or lost in translation
-They are often full of metaphor and not to be taken 100% seriously.

I'd expect most intelligent people, religious or not, to agree.

What can't people understand about backing up claims and being intelligent about it?

Okay, so Christians are asking who made the infinitesimal point from which the big bang exploded and universe formed.
But atheists are asking who made God who created the universe, so it's a tie.

Nice try.

Completely uncertain. We will never know everything through science, but even if we did, God or the supernatural could still exist. If they transcend the physical realm that we perceive, why do we think that they have to show themselves? Of course, if they never do, they're most likely irrelevant beings, meaning the debate itself is irrelevant.

The debate is NOT irrelevant when it comes to certain gods. Many of them contradict themselves, not just in the differences between their actions and words, but by their own definitions. Such beings cannot exist.

I'm agnostic because, sorry, that's the only way to be if you're to be logical. Theists, you can't prove God without evidence, and your so-called evidence is entirely up to interpretation (or misinterpretation, ha). You also can't prove God to anyone else through your personal experiences, which themselves are subject to scrutiny. Atheists, you can't disprove God as a generic/vague "supernatural force/entity." After all, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. This is all the more true with beings that do not dwell in our realm. It is also not fair to say that you are "fairly certain" that there is no such being because, without evidence, there can be no such certainty.

So there you go. Logic. Look into "argument from ignorance" and "negative proofs." Even without these, you can clearly see how it is unfair to guess at the existence of something that is unable to be perceived by its nature unless it chooses to show itself. You can easily imagine a being that wouldn't show itself to us... maybe it just doesn't care.

I hope this helps people... but I doubt it will.

IF we assume God is real and he had anything to do with anything, then he probably was the one who decided on the perfect universal constants like the gravitational constant, the Planck constant, and the speed of light for our universe. These cannot be explained and they appear to be completely arbitrary but there are exactly the right number to allow the universe to support life as we know it. Even a tiny difference and we could not exist. Everything else, from the formation of the universe to the formation of the solar system and the earth, to the building blocks for life and the evolution and extinction of dinosaurs 65 million years before primates evolved into humans has, can and will be explained by science. I don't have an opinion either way whether God exists or not because I do not know to be honest. I think that if he exists, all the religious crap trying to tell you who he is and what he wants from you is lies. Religion is anthropocentric propaganda. If there is a God, then he is the truth. If there isn't, well nothing will change either way so you really shouldn't worry about it. I think the world was very perfect before. I could not imagine it to be any better. Then modern humans appeared and now the world is a dump. I have a feeling that if there is a God, and if he created life on this planet, we are nothing more than an unfortunate plague in his eyes. All we do is destroy life and breed ourselves into unsustainable numbers and then suffer each other and die, destroying ecosystems and other lifeforms on the planet all the while. Yes, the world USED to be perfect....

God is real. Can you figure out how you came into existence..I mean from the very beginning? and if you have a scientific explanation, think about the complex make up of the entire creation. Yes it is complicated but at the same time in perfect order.

Scientist say that everything came from an atom. Where did this atom came from in the first place if that were true?

How do you explain the fact that people die and yet when we have an injury (not fatal) we are able to heal ourselves. Shouldn't we be able to live forever?

Look at the the way things work in perfect Harmony. The trees, the animals, us....isn't there some sort of great design to it all?

How about our ability to love, hate ? Where do these come from? Why arnt we like the animals?

Who teaches a child to smile for the first time? Who teaches him to lie or touch something when he knows hes not suppose to?

When you go to sleep at night and become unconscious of all that exist, what causes you to rise again in the morning? Why is it you know when you are skeepy but you never know when you fall asleep?

Why is it the ocean only comes so far and no further?

What causes people to dream?

Why do persons suddenly wake up in the middle of the night because a voice tells them to pray for someone and when they do the person is rescued by some miraculous advantage?

Can you explain the fact that you are able to sit in front of your computer and ask this question? Why are you so curious about knowledge? Who put that craving inside you?

Even if you wont call this God, you must admit that there is a higher power at work that is much greater than yourself. And if there isnt a God, why are so many people afriad to die and whats the point in being so purposeful about life.

I KNOW THAT GOD EXISTS!!!

By saying the Bible is of unclear authorship, you are assuming facts which are not in evidence. Follow the evidence where it leads:

The Christian God was very careful to prove Himself when He had the Bible written. It is different from every other book. In it He predicts the future. No other book does this with accuracy. God names names, dates and places so we can check out history and see that He was right. He even gave us the very words someone would say centuries before the fact!

If you were God and you wanted to communicate through a book, you would put things in there only a God could know, such as the future. If you wanted everyone to know that you were going to come in person, you would explain what you were like so you would be recognized. You would put in the city of your birth, where you grew up, what kinds of deeds you would do, your temperament, your purpose, even how you would die.

God did all that in the Old Testament. It was all in book form 400 years before Jesus, the Son of God, came. The New Testament gospels follow Jesus and point out some of the places where He fulfilled the prophecies.

“Daniel 11, written in the 6th century B.C., gives an amazingly thorough account of Alexander’s Grecian kingdom, divided first into four competing factions after his death. It predicts details of the struggle between the Ptolemy and Seleucid empires for a period of 160 years, right down to the advent of the Roman Empire. That is why the skeptics used to claim that the book of Daniel could not have been written before 164 B.C., but now we have proof of a much earlier writing text.

“The prophet Isaiah (44:28) gave the name of a king not yet born and of a kingdom not yet instituted and of an event that would not take place for another 150 years. He predicted that a king named Cyrus would commission the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. Cyrus did come to the throne in Persia, and in the first year of his reign in 538, he issued a decree that the temple in Jerusalem should be rebuilt. (See 2 Chronicles 36:22-Ezra 1:1-3. This prophecy described in the Bible is confirmed by the discovery of a Babylonian inscription.)

“Daniel actually gave the time when Christ would come into the world and die. Daniel (9:24) predicted that Messiah would be cut off (die) 483 Hebrew years after the issuing of the Persian decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. Artaxerxes Longimanus issued that decree on March 5, 444 B.C. (Neh. 2:1-8), granting the Jews permission to rebuild Jerusalem’s city walls. This, too, is confirmed by archeological discoveries. Four hundred eighty-three prophetic years (360 days to a year) and seven days later, Jesus was crucified as predicted, How could a prophet accurately predict the date of Messiah’s death hundreds of years before it took place, unless he was the ‘voice’ of God as he claimed?”

Thanks to the Dead Sea Scrolls found at Qumran, we know with certainty the above prophecies date before the occurrence of actual prophesied events.

He has proven His existence perfectly and wonderfully. The Christian God is the true God.

I am a Christian, just so you know.

Well, let's see.

To start, atheists say that the universe exploded out of a single particle with infinite density. Where did this speck of everything come from, if it ever existed?

A few trillion centuries later, chains of amino acids supposedly linked and formed the first cells. I find this hard to believe for 2 reasons:

1. The Miller-Urey experiment put a few elements and chemicals theorized to have existed on the prehistoric earth in a large container, with water, and attached two electrodes to the side. That would simulate lightning striking. He proved that, in doing this, he could create the Amino Acids that would link. If he can create these amino acids, why can't he make his own life? It should be fairly simple, if it can happen without anything affecting it.

2. People, even atheists say life is an amazing feat. Difficult to accomplish, and something truly amazing. How is this amazing feat just a simple chain of amino acids? It can't be something THAT pathetic.

I find all of this scientific nonsense much harder to believe than believing in God.

Hope that's helped some.

Adding to my answer!
God always has been, and always will be. I don't care if you don't believe.

God is as real as you make Him. God IS Spirit! Some people will never be convinced that He does exist. Even the Devil knows he is real and tries to impersonate Him and is destructive not Creative..Isaiah 14.9,11-32

I will answer your question with a question: Can You Prove without a doubt that He does not exist? The only thing you can logically explain is what you can see or test, by scientific evaluation. You body is matter and we were created from matter. Job 38:5

To Further confound You check this out: Ezekiel 10:4-6....

He challenges people to seek Him out and find Him, I consider that to mean even scientifically! Psalm 2, Psalm 10:4, Psalm 14:2, Jeremiah 50. Isaiah 22:13, Jeremiah 51:27-28.

In scientific values, the chances about Christ being inaccurate is a 1 to 10 billion or10 to the Tenth power.

As a Pagan I don't know if I qualify to answer, but to me God is pure Energy. Science will tell you that everything in the physical world is made of this Energy. How can you look around you and ask the question you asked? We are Spirits/Energy in physical bodies having an experience in the physical world. When our bodies get sick or wear out the Spirit returns to its Source. We then review our time here and plan the next trip. This makes sense to me but I don't know if it will to you. Hope you find the answer you are looking for.

The god the religious people try to prove as real is the sun. Without it, there is no life, it is the light of the heaven and the earth, nothing known is more powerful and it is the source of our lives.

All the above can be said about their god, but i like the alien idea too.

The God that sits up in the clouds judging and punishing is definitely not real.

God is love. God is, all power. Climbing up the ladder, matter, energy, and thought which is the highest vibration of all energy. And love is the mind energy that is vibrating at the highest rate of all energy. As energy slows it becomes lesser thought patterns, called gods/goddess or angels. as the energy slows still more it enters into the realm of energy as we understand it, radiation, microwaves, etc until it slows to the point of light which is both energy and matter. From their it slows to the speed of matter. Hence the teaching that God is the I AM or the ALL in all. There is nothing that is God and nothing that is not God. The nearest mankind can come to relating to God as the highest energy is by loving. Striving constantly to be a more loving person. Ever hear of "hieros gamos" where one enters a state of consciousness that becomes the "image and likeness of God?"

Oh boy, a contest!!

God (as we generally refer to Him) is not real as we know reality.
He is existence itself. Everything that exists must have existence just like us.
But ours doesn't last too long in this world.
Still our matter keeps existing and the live force that energizes us keeps existing.
All thing are made from the matter and energy that was reformed by the one we call the creator.
For any of this stuff to happen there must be an original source of eternal matter and energy.
Let's call Him God or Allah if that's the best name for Him.
