What they do - (my experience)

They sit you in the chair and lean you back and put in a plastic thing you bite on so they can get a good look at your teeth. Then the assistant will go through and put a material on your teeth called "etch" which roughens up the tooth surface and gets your teeth ready for the brackets! (and BTW none of this tastes good!) Then the orthodontist will come over and place the brackets one by one and use a small light (the "gun" someone referred to) to make them stick. The assistant will then go through again and use the light some more. It feels different now. THEN they go through and place a wire and put little elastic bands around each bracket to hold the wire on. They might have to trim the wire and sometimes they have to re-cement a bracket so be prepared!

Then you sit up and feel the weirdness!! :) They tell you what to do and how to take care of them, and make sure you get wax! They are kinda rough on your lips at first and the wax will definitely help! And braces usually hurt for a few days after you get them adjusted or when you first get them on. Mine were sore for a long time! Good luck with the braces! :)

iv'e already had braces and now i have a retainer, but i need to get braces a second time in two weeks as well! braces are annoying in the beggining because your lips might get scraped up against and the wire is a changed feeling to your teeth and gums but after a while you should get used to them. just hope that when you get them off you wont need them a second time like me.

OK they begin by putting this stretcher thing on your mouth .it feels odd and i think the one i got was made of hard plastic.they put metal rings around mt back teeth to join all the brackets..they then put all the little blocks of metal(brackets) on each tooth with glue. this is probably the longest part of the whole process.then thy put the wires in.all of it feels really odd because its mostly new.it doesn't hurt.its more of pressure on the teeth.you may feel fine in the beginning but after a few hours you teeth start to hurt and get really sensitive.the first time ,for me , the pain lasted a week or so but it depends on how bad your teeth are i guess.i get my wires changed every month.the pain comes back but its length varies.the orthodontist should give you some dental wax to put on your brackets so that you dont shred your mouth up!good luck, dont worry(you get used to it)
