My daughter did that at around 2 years old. We took her to the Accident and Emergency department at the local hospital where they did an x-ray, which showed the coin. As it had not yet passed through her stomach, there was still a chance it could block her airway, as there is a point where it could.
Once it had passed beyond that point (they kept her in overnight for safety) they checked by x ray again, then discharged her. They gave me gloves to check in the toilet for when it had passed. She passed it no problems at all.
So, it would be worth going to the hospital because of the risk of it blocking the airway. Otherwise, it will pass naturally.

Ha ha ha, this is your first and or oldest child isn't it? the first kid to eat a coin is a shock. the second is routine, the third is disappointment. the "we've done this to many times" feeling hits.
If you go to the doctor, they'll just tell you to monitor his stool for blood. I would go just to be safe but its NOTHING to worry about. If its a penny be aware that any penny after 1980 or so has a high zinc content and can eat up your kids digestive track. I'd go just to be on the safe side. Two hours at the hospital to make sure your kid doesn't have life long damage is a pretty good idea.
Remember...Pennies are the most dangerous. 997 of the time they'll just pss them, but that 1% could be bad. be safe.

Ech, um... Well, when I was little, I swallowed a bunch of change, and it's really nothing to worry about TOO much, but, you should probably poke around in the toilet for a few days..... I know that's disgusting, but, you need to make sure it comes out.. And if it's not out within a week or so then you need to go to the docter and have some scans done...
Although, I can't imagine how a quarter is going to come out anyway. >.>;
It's not especially urgent, but, I would try to go to the docter soon, or at least call them and see what they say.

It should pass fine, however you will need to make sure it comes out within 3-4 days. I know it sounds icky, but that is the same thing most doctors will tell you.
If he starts having stomach pains, a fever, or constipation, or it does not pass within a few days, then it is time for a doctor's visit.
Hope that helps.

As the coin progresses through the child's system, it could get stuck anywhere and cause a serious issue. You are lucky it didn't get stuck going in and block breathing, but a bowel obstruction is just as deadly. To be safe, I would get an xray at the hospital.

Wait and check the stool. If the coin does not pass through within 48 hours, then take the child to a clinic where they can x-ray him.
I wouldn't worry about it though. You and your nurse on the health advice hotline can hash this out further. Meanwhile, just pour yourself a stiff drink and toast to good heath.

Take him to the doctor.
The coin could be lodged anywhere & although he appears to be ok for now he's got to go to sleep - what then?. He will be running around & it could move to a dangerous place.
Why are you taking the chance?
Have him checked out. & now.

I would CALL the doctor and see if they want him brought in. My guess is he'll be fine, although it may not be comfortable on the way out. However, different doctors do different things. Call and see if they want him right now, or to give it a few days first
