Oh my GOD yes.....is he flirting with you?! Hello?! The one thing us guys have the most difficulty doing is putting our hearts on our sleeves. It is so hard for us to express how we feel. USUALLY (despite what most guys will tell you) we're quite timid. Our idea of flirting is "the glance". I think you know what I'm talking about. It's that one second look followed up with that goofy smile and sometimes (just sometimes) followed up by, what we perceive to be, a witty comment.
For a guy to call you "beautiful" is obvious flirting. I'm sure he was nervous too when he said it. You'll KNOW for certain if he calls you and struggles for things to talk about. If he starts calling you up and chuckles a lot or can't find words .....WE HAVE A WEINER! (winner, that is).
Sadly though....a LOT of guys (if not the majority) are just looking for sex. The guys who are on the hunt for booty HATE to have to wait for a woman. If he's not willing to wait for you, he isn't sincere. Like it or lump it. So whatever you do...BE SMART, BE SAFE.
Good luck!

Well I don't know if he wants to be your bf ... if I think a woman is beautiful I tell her. That doesn't mean I want to be her bf. Just thank him and let it go at that. If either of you want more .. it will come in time.
You must be pretty young age wise or emotionally immature if you are older ... otherwise you would accept such compliments at face value and not read anymore into them ...

John D, I think you win the award for being the farthest away from the word 'definitely'. deffentaly- don't use the big words if you can't spell them.
I called a friend beautiful once- because I wanted her to be more than a friend.

To be honest, yes. It does mean he's trying to be your bf.
If he's a great guy and you really like him, I think you should give it a try. But if you don't like him, don't reject him in a meaningful way. Because us guys have feelings too :P..hope this helped!

It could be that. Or it just could be the way he talks to his close female friends. Basiclly you'll just have to ask him to find out he is the only one that will know the true answer on that.

Sounds like he does. Ignore him next time and see if he goes insane, then you will know for sure.
Alternatively, just ask him why he says you're beautiful, and ask him if he likes you (as if it was a joke).

the problem with asking people online is that they can't fully understand the situation as they know neither you nor him. I'd hazzard a guess at yes but i'm not sure
