Is it how some purebred dogs are registered? Should it be the only available registration papers available from the breeder? What if I want to register my dog with the AKC?

Is the ACA as reputable as the AKC, or should I be worried about legitimacy?

It's a puppymill registry. They will register stuffed animals and pet rocks if you sent them money.

The ACA is not a legit registry. It is a registry that started with BYB/mills in order to register dogs that weren't able to be registered in a legit registry for some reason, who were only registered with limited registration but owner chose ot break contract and breed anyway or because the breeder is suspended from doing business with a legit registry.

These types of registries are worthless..in many cases the dogs aren't even really purebred. These registries are scams used by irresponsible breeders to make unsuspecting buyers believe they have a registered dog.

the ACA is an independent association that registers dogs internationally and Nationaly and rates them on obedience training etc u can reg. Ur dog with them OR the akc ONLY ONE OF them if reg. Ur dog w/ aca and chose to breed and or show u shouldknow that u will not be able to show ur dog in AKC show or breed with any akc reg(well u might but good luck) it is a wonderful SECONDARY info site i prefer the AKC site(www.AKC.org) then link with the site for Ur breed hope this helped if u want more info on them check out their web site @ www.acacanines.com

Never heard of it, but be wary. There are many spurious "registries" out there used by puppymillers so they can claim their dogs have "papers".
