Has anyone heard about this? I don't know if it's true or not, but someone on here mentioned that after the USSR fell, documents were released that mentioned that Russians tried to bomb the midwest but the missile did not launch due to a defect.

Does anyone know if there is true or not?

I think I may have heard something about this in one of my political science classes in college. Apparently, Russia was an even bigger threat then we had expected it to be or even thought it was when we looked at the documents and discoveries later on. A missile strike from the USSR would have meant WW III, Thank God that didn't end up happenning.

It was probably false, but the west has always believed that only 2/3 of the Soviet nuclear missles would work the way they were suppose to. That ment that the chance of blowing themselves up with their own missles was high.
