I have run into quite a few Christians who were shocked to learn such atrocities occured in the Bible.
Others, however, have defensively justified it, insisting that the tribes that were attacked were irredeemably evil and/or given a chance to "repent" and refused. I have heard quite a few apoligists insist that these "evil" tribes practiced child sacrifice and cannibalism...ignoring the lack of evidence for such a claim, and the fact that the Romans later spread almost exactly the same sort of stories about the early Christian church.
I actually encountered a fellow who insisted that the young women were turned into good wives and were well treated...with no evidence whatsoever backing this other than "God wouldn't let his chosen people commit rape."
Yeah, right.

Here's a small sample
Joshua 6:20-21
20 When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the people gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so every man charged straight in, and they took the city.
21 They devoted the city to the LORD and DESTROYED WITH THE SWORD EVERY LIVING THING IN IT—MEN AND WOMEN, YOUNG AND OLD, CATTLE, SHEEP AND DONKEYS.

This is the diety that church people worship to this very day.
The answers from church people are very telling. I see one of them called you an imbicile and a goon for asking it.

Thou venomed hedge-born whey-face!
Yes. Read the rest of Torah you imbecile and it will become clear to you and what did they do with them. If this was a serious question I'd tell you but since its just a thinly disguised attack it doesn't deserve a real answer. You would only write off a serious answer anyway. Goon

Yes.
Take them as plunder, make them slaves. Much preferable, I would think, than letting them starve to death, don't you think?
