When leaving a friend i was told "Ya-teh-hay" (i spelled that phonetically, seen as i don't know how it is spelled.) They wouldn't tell me what it meant. They grew up on a reservation in one of the Dakotas, if i new which one this would be easier.

any ideas (preferably anyone who speaks either language)

Two things, I believe crazy horse is correct though i do not speak lakota. And Lakota and Sioux are the same people. Sioux is an insult toward the lakota in another nation's language.
