Dark purple will, of course make your room very dark and closed in. I think you will grow very tired very quickly in this room. It could be very oppressive and cave like.
I think a lighter shade of purple or periwinkle would be much easier to live with and a prettier choice. The white trim is still a good idea to set off the color.
Purple is a power color and there are lots of beautiful shades in it's lighter color palette. I think you should buy a small amount and try it on your wall. Be sure to look at it in the daytime and the nighttime. In that way you will have a real feel for what the overall effect will be.
Remember color can and will influence your mood.

A light neutral colour if you want a relaxing bedroom, so maybe cream on 3 walls and one wall in a plum or red based colour for a romantic/sexy feel.
Dark purple might be a bit too dark and white too bright. These colours would be good for a dining room or kitchen.

You've gotten some great suggestions regarding color. I thought I would throw in a suggestion regarding what type of paint -
water based paints are highly recommended because of they are safer and more environmentally friendly.
Here's a highly recommended brand. Click on the store locator to find a store near you.

They don't have a purple, but they do have a BayBerry green which would be very relaxing and would look very pretty with purple accents.

For me it would be turquoise blue. Since it can be a cold colour i would have 1 or 2 other walls painted in a deep pink. Nice combination.
But i think purple all over is a good choice too.

well i think you should paint it light purple and have white curtains. those two colors are very delicate and pretty and can make any room look wonderful. my room is dark purple and i only like it because the sun doesn't come in brightly in the morning...but that's the only thing i like about my room being so dark. i would go for a light purple if anything. good luck :]

Try a dark purple bed set, drapes; and paint the room lilac with cream trim.
Soothing, restful, but not boring!

Keep in mind that colors such as purple, violet or plum are cool colors and can make a room appear dark. If you are a sun worshipper, you may want to lean towards lighter shades like butterscotch or shades of green. The bottomline is you wake up to that color every morning. It's harder to redecorate with a color that is not neutral: neutral colors range from sand, taupe, camel, and wheat. Good luck!

It depends on the color of your bedroom- if it is small, your color of dark purple will make it appear smaller- and the color could go darker- reflecting off of the other walls making that dark purple a black color. If you have adequate light, it'll be fine.
Check out: www.behr.com and look at color choices.
Good luck!
