i've got a brother and he's now 17 years old. he's got some problem like he always close the tap very tight and worry about those small small things for the whole day. he will ask you the same question for more than 10 times a day and sometimes having difficulties to fall asleep. we sent him to see a clinical psychologist at the general hospital and the doctor said he's been diagnosed with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and always ask him to get the pills and go home without providing any therapy or treatment. anyone know any good counselor in Malaysia?

OCD is very hard to control via therapy alone. He should get the medication and then start behavior modification therapy. He may never be able to stop the medication however.

It's possible that the doctor wants your brother to start the pills first and have them affect him before he starts therapy. Therapy alone won't do much for him if he's still in the OC state of mind. But once the meds kick in, he'll be a better candidate for therapy. Maybe that's what the doctor is trying to do. So wait about two weeks or so for the medications to take effect, then call the doctor and say that you need therapy for him as well. If the doctor who prescribed the meds doesn't do therapy, he can always refer you to someone who does.

Medication should help but it should be combined with some kind of psychological support. Don't know anything about counselors in Malaysia though.

Are not the pills therapy and treatment? OCD is a mental disorder and if you want alternative solutions, try a good homeopath. Best wishes.

Demand the doctor to tell you where a phyciatrist is. Your family is paying for his services, and you have the right to know. No...I don't know any people there, but the doctors do. I hope your brother will be ok!

See OCD at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 7, and insomnia on page 3; note/print relevant parts, and give to him, or refer him directly.

It sounds as though it is simply OCD and he should be fine, except he will worry about everything!
