My oldest son and daughter have not lived with us for over a year. My oldest son never changed his address on his driver's license. My daughter married and says she changed her address and name on hers. Neither of them have lived with us for well over a year. Our insurance company still shows them as licensed drivers in our household. They even show my daughter with her maiden name! We have explained time and time again that neither of our oldest children live with us anymore and we can't control whether or not they have updated their licenses. (I believe my daughter has, but know my son hasn't even though we've told him to numerous times since he moved out). Now our insurance is threatening to cancel because we refuse to pay extra for our son and daughter who no longer live with us and haven't for a long time. What do we do to fix this problem? Even if we go to another insurance company, I'm sure they will think our son and daughter are still living with us when they aren't. Grrrr!!!!

My daughter owns a home in Oklahoma (16 hours away) and my son moved to Washington, DC and shared an apartment with friends but is now back in Michigan and searching for a new place to live. We have told him he cannot stay with us. (He's 22 and we've had issues with him over the years, so we are done giving handouts). Anyways, neither of them live with us, so why does the insurance company show that they are living with us. It's very frustrating and we have no control over what grown kids do (or don't do). My daughter says she changed her license when she moved to Oklahoma. My son never did.

Me;

This is a very easy problem to solve. Simply have your insurance agent modify your policy to "exclude" then as authorized drivers of your automobiles. Problem solved.

You can get copies of utility bills with their names on them & the service address. Also, a copy of their own auto insurance policy (then it doesn't matter if they "show" in your household, the company won't charge for them if they have their own insurance). Cell phone bills do not work. This will show that they are out of household. There is a database that some insurance companies use, but not all that show possible other residents of a household and other vehicles in a household. I would call around to other companies. I know Progressive uses this system.
Isn't your agent helping you with this?? They should be. If not, get another agent. If you purchased your insurance with a company like GEICO & you don't have an agent, you get what you pay for. Go to a good independent agent, they will be able to help you with your situation. Also, you would be able to go to their office & speak to a human in person.

well do your son and daughter had a apt they rent or something like that.. you could maybe show them a lease with there names on it so you could say they dont live with you.. just an idea.. dont know if it would work..or maybe taxes who knows what the insurance company would take... or maybe you should shop for new insurance before you get cancelled and tell the new company whats going on... maybe they will believe you and give you a discount or a better price than you are getting with company your with now... there are tons of insurance companies out there... dont be stuck on one.. :)

Find a new insurance company. As long as they are no longer minors, they should be able to be taken off.
