i don't want my child to go to DARE education at his local school because i believe that it gets him to comfortable with the police. I feel like if he gets to cofortable with the police he may be quicker to give information to the police later in life.

I am not a criminal. i dont want my kid to give a statement to the police if he gets arrested and i have heard numerous stories where the police bring in that childs dare officer to get a statement. I believe that i need to do this to protect my childs constitutional rights.

root it is clear that you cant read or you have no reasoning skills so it isn't surprising that your child is a police officer. i dont want my kid being comfortable with the police if he gets questioned later in life.

This is a good program, but there's a flaw the kids learn what are the good drugs to take.

Your child, your decision. I can really see the benefits of children not becoming comfortable with the police. Like when the child is lost and he turns and runs AWAY from the officer that's sworn to help him. Or when he he gets touched in a bad way and isn't comfortable enough with the police to explain what happened so we can make a case against the pervert that touched him. I walk by parents all the time that point at me and tell their kids, "See that man? He'll put you in jail!" I ALWAYS take the time to talk to the child and assure them that I'm not a mean person and only take the bad guys to jail. Children are a never ending source of joy for me and I love them each and every one.

Despite the criticism I've read that it doesn't work, at least your kid would be doing SOMEthing to help say no to drugs. Why on earth don't you want your son to get comfortable with the police? If you say you're not a criminal (which I'm entitled to believe,) then you must've been in an abusive relationship with an officer at one point (may or may not be the kid's father, in either case, I say STOP STEREOTYPING, not all officers are like this with their families.

I say this because it's quite obvious that you're bitter against the police, and you want your son to learn to hate them. Why else wouldn't you want him to get comfortable with them? That's TERRIBLE parenting. It is CHILD ABUSE! Your claim that he might get questioned later in life is bullcrap! Not if he folows the law properly.

Please think about what I have said because police officers are to be respected, and to respect them will help him become a law-abiding citizen, so he can have a successful career and make it in his life. So shameful that you don't want that for him.

i have to agree with most responses. unless ur afraid they're going to tell the cops something on u, why worry about it? i went through the DARE program, and it didn't make me any more comfortable with them, just showed me what drugs actually looked like. and it damn sure sisn't keep from getting in trouble later in life.

Have you considered how it will look if your child is the only kid whose parents wouldn't allow them to participate?

All in all, it is your child and your decision. I just think it might be wise to not tell your child the reason you are keeping them from it. While your views may make perfect sense to you, they may seem blurred to a child. You may give them the impression that the police are bad altogether, and that may keep them from calling the police later in life if they need them for their own safety.

My son is in the ROTC, DARE Program and the Police Explorers.

I believe that these are "excellent" programs for our children.

I really do not see your concern. Your child will not speak of anything that happens in your home or otherwise.

These programs are not meant for the police to gather personal information from the children; they are meant to "keep your children off the streets", to teach them "honor", "respect" and "discipline" not only for themselves but also for the "society".

You are looking at these programs negatively, that's a shame.

What is really the problem? Wouldn't you want your child to do better in his life? What exactly do you want for him? Don't you want him to have goals and "actually" be successful in this life? Do you feel that you are going to lose him?

Don't know, but I feel that you are focusing in the negative and not the positive.

I suggest for you not to put "your life issues" in his life.

I SAY "YES" TO THE DARE PROGRAMS!!!

To all the police officers that "donate" your time for our children; thank you. From a mother that "cares".

Then we'll probably be seeing your child later in life anyway and not in a positive role.

If you really are a parent don't you want a better life for your kid then you have? Or would you rather teach him/her to not respect law enforcement, which means not respecting our laws, which means they WILL end up with legal problems.

This is why many people believe that in order to have children you should need a license.

and that would be a problem why? Is he planning on growing up to do something against the law to where he would need to hide info from the police or maybe you have something to hide. hmmm

I'm sorry you feel this way, but I'm more curious as to why you feel you have to share these feelings with strangers.
Talk to the Principal of the school.

I guess what we're all wondering is do you just not want your kid to tell the cops there's drugs in your home?

He'll find out what? Drugs are illegal? And try to put you out of business?
