A newpaper ad in my town cost 15.00. I also dont think we will need to post one b/c we live on a pretty busy street. But how can I have a successful yardsale w/o an ad?

For the most part, we are selling clothes. Baby clothes, childrens, juniors and adults.
we have some baby furniture but nothing major.
We have tons of toys and knick knacks
but nothing much of anything else.

how could we set these up to make money and get rid of all of this stuff? I need some tips

A lot of garage sale shoppers just drive around until they see signs or a sale. If you live on a busy street, you shouldn't need an ad. Buy (or make) signs on bright poster board. Mark your address clearly in black marker with arrows leading people to your house. Write on the sign "baby items" and put them at the major intersections near your house. (Some cities require a permit to have a garage sale and will allow only a certain number of signs - they will issue stickers to put on your signs to prove you're "legal." Usually doesn't cost anything)
Be sure to put major items in plain view of people driving by - it will get them to stop. Organize like items together. Put clothes and small items either on tables or fashion a hanging rod out of a wooden dowel and some rope. Sort clothes by size, boy vs. girl, type (pajamas, dresses, shorts, etc.). Make things easy to see without people having to dig through lots of stuff.

Big clear signs around your neigborhood is the best bet. Many people just go driving early Saturday morning looking for the signs, so be sure to put them at all major intersections in your area with clear directions to your home.

Getting together with neighbors and having a "street sale" is another great way to attract a lot of visitors. Easy to split the cost of the ad if other people on your street participate.

You can advertise for free at www.craigslist.org in a city near you.

Place posters in grocery stores, hardware, the gym usually have bulletin boards.

Make a large cardboard sign the day before and place in on a car (check your local sign codes) at the nearest large intersection.

Be a good neighbor and remove all your signs when the sale is over.

You may arrange and organize,

1. Display of big sign board/s.
2. Display small direction signs board/s.
3. Get together of opinion leaders informing them all about your products and make use of them to have word of mouth publicity.

Put up a big sign.

Put up signs all around the neighborhood.

Tell all your friends.

Send out an email to everyone you know.
