Firewalks are illegal within City limits, but, there are always a lot of illegal fireworks. I used to live on the beach in Brooklyn, and I had to spend every July 4th out of the City - my poor German Shepard was terrified. Oddly, my little Maltese was never afraid of them.

I also doubt that you can take fireworks on a plane.

It's illegal to even have them in your possession in NYC, if you really want to see the best fireworks, bring you and your family to Waterside (near 26th and 1st ave) on July 4th. People are allowed on the FDR (highway) and you get the best up close view of the fireworks. I've been going ever since my son was born (he'll be 3 this year), and even though you can watch them on t.v., seeing them live and hearing them so close and watching them pop is the best experience you can have for July 4th.

Richard, yes it is illegal to bring fireworks to NY. You can get a fine even if it is just a few, however if you want to enjoy a crazy night of fireworks and you are still planning to bring yours I would recommend you go to one of the neighborhoods in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn, Menahan st between Bushwick and Evergreen is my favorite. Yearly the block puts their money together and spend over $1000 in fireworks. The police usually doesnt go there and if they do, they simply give a warning. But yes it is illegal.

They are indeed illegal and in the past few years police have even taken to holding checkpoints at the border of Pennsylvania where it is legal to buy them and catch people coming back into NY with the contraband. NYC has one of the best fireworks displays in the country on the East river and NY harbor. They can be seen for miles and are also televised. Other communities also have their own displays if you aren't staying in the city. It is not worth the risk of fines or fires to try to smuggle your own in.

I'm looking forward to finding a wife so that she can celebrate the fourth of July with me by making fireworks with me.

Yes, it's illegal.

You can't use, or even possess fireworks in the State of New York, even if you purchased them legally in another jurisdiction, even if you don't plan on selling them or giving them away, and even if you don't use them in New York.

You shouldn't bring them.
