This has only started over the last month or so. My vet is only about 10 minutes away, and the last 2 times, my puppy (8 mos. old) has become car sick. (This time I was prepared with an old towel) Is there anything I can do to help her not get sick? Or shoud I just invest in some 'throw away' towels?

My dog is older but she would get car sick too...
We cured that by not feeding or giving her water till after her vet appointment....
Even if it was a afternoon appointment a dog will be OK not to eat till after since its just for that day.

This way she has nothing on her tummy to throw up.

For my car sickness.. Sitting in the front passenger seat with the window cracked helps me... Have no idea if that would help a dog. But where i sat in the car seems to be key.

This is an example of bad association. 'Car rides means needle in Bum or being pulled about by a stranger.' It should really mean nice things like a walk in the park after a very short pleasant car ride
Start by just having your dog in the car whilst it is on your driveway while you are gardening or something. Then when it is content with that have the engine running for a while. Graduate to a short trip around the block and then back home for a nice game in the garden with you. Then a short ride out to somewhere where you can give the dog a run. Take it gradually and build it up. Don't be tempted to give your dog human type drugs for this problem.
I have just toured Scotland, Wales and |the West Country and covered 2200 miles accompanied by my two faithful Border Collies

Lots of short car rides to more fun destinations than the vet (like a park for a walk). GInger or gingersnaps often help.....
