Yes he can cancel it and recieve a refund for the balance on the account from that vehicle and there is not much you can do about it other than to break up with him and pay for your own insurance

If you are insured on his policy, he can cancel the coverage at any time. If he paid for your insurance on your policy, he can not make changes to it. You can always cancel coverage or change things on a policy. If you were to sell or trade the car, you would not want pay for it to be insured when you do not own it.

On a side note, if this is the way you treat someone (letting them pay your expenses and trying to figure out how to continue to have them pay after you end the relationship) it might be the best thing for him if you do break up. You come across as a very cold hearted person here. I do not know if you are, but you may want to seriously look at yourself!!

Unless you have some form of a contract where he is paying your car insurance in exchange for you doing something (paying the home owner's insurance, taking care of his kid, etc.) he can stop paying for the insurance whenever he wants whether you have broken up or not.

Now whether or not he can cancel the insurance would depend on how the policy was written. If it were written just in your name and it is your policy but he has been paying for it, then he can't cancel your insurance, but he can still stop paying for the insurance.

If you were simply added to his insurance policy and drive a car that is now insured as one of his cars, then I think he would be able to simply stop coverage on that car.

there are a lot of variables to answer this question and I tried to address most of them. And there may even be variables based upon the insurance industry and regulations for your particular state. Mine are only general guidelines and may not completely apply to your facts.

You can cancel it. Most cases, you have to show proof of new insurance first. You will get a prorated check back from the insurance company. Then you can apply that amount to your new auto insurance carrier.

Yes, you both are listed on the policy- therefore both of you can make changes too it such as cancel it.

It is time for you to get your own insurance.. why should he pay.. your breaking up with them!
