This is a problem scientists are currently struggling with. Pesticides harm not only animals, but humans as well. That's why a common pesticide, DDT, was taken off the market a number of years ago. There are currently other methods, like using pheromones that have been around for a long time. They don't seem to work well enough. This problem is not being ignored. Let's hope we find a solution soon.

Dipel or Derris Dust..one a biological bacteria and the latter,Rotenone, both insecticides.Use the Derris in an old sock and shake (good for tinea, apparently) and the Dipel as a spray..the caterpillars eat the leaves and explode in the night..Garlic/cayenne,of course and our old friend Pyrethrum...companion planting and crop rotation will also help.Plenty of fresh organic matter never hurts also.
