Yes it is illegal, and yes the police do sting operations to arrest people who do.

It depends on where you are - if it is a market where stolen goods are allowed to be sold, then you are just one among many there in the same process! And, if the stolen goods held by the police are sold to public after a period of time, there is no reason why one should worry about buying stolen goods from a law enforcing authority!

If you know something is stolen you could be in trouble.You may not even have to know it is stolen,just get caught with it and you could be in serious trouble.I wouldn't dout that the police would have a sting operation going on.Get a reciet for whatever you buy....

Yes its called receiving stolen goods and you can get as much time as the man or women who stole the item . You might get more if the person lies and says you told them to steal it .

No, but you should take the item to the police and ask them to engrave your name on it.

Make sure you tell them it was stolen by somebody else, and you'll get a free donut.

Cops most certainly do this kind of "entrapment" routine, so I'd be real careful. If you even suspect something is "hot", drop it like a HOT POTATO.
