I am an african american woman and I have dark brown hair. I used Feria medium golden brown dye on my hair and did not achieve the results I wanted ( a reddish brown hue like on the box) How soon can I try dying it again and should I use a lighter color?

You risk really drying your hair out and causing damage. If you have your hair straightened than you should not color it again. However, if no relaxer than take a strand of hair and hold it between your thumb and forefinger and thumb and pull, if it breaks easily than don't re-color. If it stretches to at least twice its lenght than consider lightening. However, you will need a lighter color. Because your hair is naturally so dark, it will be difficult to get a red very vibrant without really lightening it. Good luck:)

I would at least call the salon and explain what happen I know this can happen and my sister in law is a beautician and they are more than willing to help where she works as well as her. However if it isn't really bad since it is damaged from all of the dying if it was long enough I would clip it up a wk or so to hide all I could of it and then I would go back to the same salon depending on what they say but I would not do it right now as the hair is damaged already but I think they should try to make it right with you or refund the money at least. My sister in law also tells me if I want to strip the dye out faster to use dawn dish detergent for shampoo and a very good conditioner after that but I am not sure if it will strip the last dye you added or if it will take the orange out also. You might try to find a temp color I know some kids even use Kool-aid but there is also some for root touch up or maybe a wash in rinse color try to find something that gentle on the hair that will cover the rest of the orange in it until your hair has time to heal more.
